SBA loan program a boost for small businesses

When Carole Giantomass-Revell began seeking a loan to build a fourth Learning Ladder Child Development Center in Lancaster County, she naturally started with local banks.

One of the banks suggested she seek a loan through the U.S. Small Business Administration's 504 Loan Program. She's glad she did.

The federal loan "was essential to the project," Revell said.

"It's a better source of financing than we were able to achieve through a local bank. The loan program made the project more feasible, because the equity ratio was more attractive, thus enabling the corporation to expand without draining cash funds."
