Population figures released Tuesday by the U.S. Census Bureaushow Du Page County posted the biggest gain in Illinois from 1980 to1985 and Peoria County suffered the biggest loss.
But state and local officials took issue with the figures,calling them irrelevant to the counties in 1988.
"That is news that went out with the old fish wrappings aboutthree years ago," said Peoria City Manager Thomas Mikulecky. "I don'tregard it as current, applicable or in any way relevant to ourcurrent situation."
