SA: No silver bullet in alternative fuels
A petroleum conference in Adelaide has been told .. there's no silver bullet to solve
the world's future transport needs.
Transport consultant MARK MCKENZIE says existing fuels including petrol .. diesel and
LPG will be around for many years to come.
He says alternative fuels .. including biofuels .. petrol-electric hybrids and even
natural gas will all play increasingly important roles.
But Mr MCKENZIE says the big start-up costs for hydrogen .. electric and fuel cells
suggests there's no way they'll be fuels for transport in the foreseeable future.
Speaking at the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association conference
.. Mr MCKENZIE says the future of transport is likely to involve a whole mix of fuels.
He says there'll be cleaner forms of petrol and diesel .. and ultimately a move to
synthetic diesel.
